Bob Bashara Has Finally Been Arrested

Bob Bashara, husband of Jane Bashara that was found murdered in the back seat of her SUV on January 25, 2012, has finally been arrested. Joseph Gentz, the Bashara’s handyman had been arrested for Jane’s murder after he confessed, but he maintained and still maintains that Bob paid him to murder Jane. Bob has remained a person of interest all of this time and has done the media rounds proclaiming his innocence, while his odd behavior incriminated him more. Much has been uncovered about Bob’s lifestyle, from a mistress that thought he was divorced, to an S&M lifestyle in a basement of a property he owns. He had recently talked about writing a book about his life, not about the loss of his wife Jane, his family or their lives together……No. He wants to write about his S&M lifestyle and how misunderstood that is and how it needs to be accepted in our society, as it is so misunderstood. He wants to make that his life’s mission. Yes, Bob is not playing with a full deck, which is why the former mistress, as well as Jane’s mother had to have restraining orders brought against him.

What was he arrested for? Jane’s murder? Hiring Joseph Gentz to murder Jane? No, for hiring a hitman to murder Joseph Gentz. I kid you not. So if anyone had any questions about whether or not Bob would hire a hitman to murder Jane, you have your answer as he was paying a hitman to murder the hitman. I would say “unstable” is an understatement for Bob.

It is about time he was arrested. I hope they can charge him in Jane’s murder. I truly pray for Jane’s family, as I know this ordeal has not been easy.

Thanks Marilyn!

  1. Scott says:

lol this gets even more bizarre.
one thing i hate more then a killer is a killer who doesnt even have the guts to do his own dirty work.
you’d think bob was the damn godfather or something the way he gives orders.

  2. niecey456 says:

And it finally caught up with his sorry, good for nothing backside. What a lowlife Bob is!

  3. According to one link there was a window of 6 or 7 days when Gentz was not in jail – what if the hitman Bob hired had been successful in killing him? Let’s hope that LE had him under surveillance!

I’m with Scott – this guy is a coward – Niecey thanks for letting us know that he is finally locked up where he belongs.

  4. niecey456 says:

If you read the following article, you will find that he was likely caught on tape. He likely was conspiring with someone to do the job while they were wired and actually working for police, which means that whomever he approached likely called them and the person agreed to work for them to catch him. Also this hit was somehow supposed to be carried out while Gentz was in jail, apparently it must have been pretty recently, which makes you wonder if he approached someone that had a friend or friends in the same jail. If you watch the video on the link, you will be able to see how Bob is taking life in jail. His lawyer says he’s unstable. He’s just now figuring that out?

I agree with you both. I really feel for Jane’s family, especially her children.

  5. Scott says:

lol bob is a lot dumber then terri horman thats for sure ;)

  6. niecey456 says:

No doubt. He is just not the brightest lightbulb in the pack. That is for sure. He and Casey would make a great couple and he has money. I just know she would love him.

  7. Scott says:

i mean there is only one logical conclusion to draw from bob trying to kill (have killed) gentz. he knows getnz is gonna sell him out (or already has) and not take the fall alone.

so im wondering how long till charges against bob for janes death as well.

  8. niecey456 says:

Good question, because surely they are coming. Gentz was found competent to stand trial. He was recently evaluated and a Judge ruled him competant. Apparently he struggles with mental instabilities and a very low IQ.
    http://stclairshores.patch.com/articles/gentz-found-competent-in-bashara-case

  9. Scott says:

right. and any good lawyer defending bashar would use that to say ‘this guy is nut/stupid and not reliable when implicating my client.’

which makes it even dumber for bob to hire someone to kill him. what a freaking idiot (thank god)

  10. niecey456 says:

This is before he was ruled competent but does explain why they did that.

    http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120611/METRO01/206110378/Bashara-handyman-s-competency-review-could-huge-impact-case?odyssey=tab

The good news is if you read some of the links I gave above, you will find that Bob is facing a life sentence for this crime, which is what Gentz is facing.

  11. niecey456 says:

They have Bashara on tape plotting to kill Gentz, so they have him on that. Now, the question is can they get enough from Gentz to nail Bob for Jane. I personally think they have established a great deal already. Jane’s body was found in Detroit in her SUV. It was Gentz that told them she was killed at her home in Grosse Point. They found that to be true. He told them this when he confessed. The list is pretty long on these things.

  12. niecey456 says:

I’m with you in Thanking God that this guy is not that smart.

  13. atm9533 says:

Well color me shocked. He must have know the police and everyone else was watching his every move, so he tries something like this. crazy

  14. niecey456 says:

    Good to see you ATM!

I have to agree with you that this was a crazy stunt. Like I was telling Scott, I don’t think Bob is the brightest lightbulb in the pack.

What a shame that Jane devoted her life to such a low life. She deserved better. What a shame that her children have that to call dad. They deserved better.

At this point I think Gentz is a bit smarter than Bob. Both of them need to be under permanent lock and key.

  15. niecey456 says:

The following was from several days ago. It shows that Bob’s lawyer is not real brilliant either.

Maybe they have been in contact with Casey and they have CEV?

  16. carla says:

Well, I’m relieved that it doesn’t appear to be a set-up where LE had an undercover officer approach Bob and seduce him with the idea of knocking off Gentz on the inside. Recorded audio and video should be enough to convict on solicitation to commit murder, but while all people of common sense understand that this solidifies his guilt in the murder of Jane, I assume that once Bob hears and sees the recorded evidence himself, he may assert that he wanted to eliminate Gentz whose lies have destroyed his reputation. If he does this, it’s still a confession though.

Are we sure that Rachel Gillett thought Bob was a) divorced, or b) widowed? First of all, which one is it? Did she believe he was divorced or widowed? The reason I ask is in all the years that she dated him in S&M style, surely she KNEW where he lived. If she never went to Bob’s home, she must have asked why and have been satisfied with whatever answer he gave her. And this just sounds too incredible, to be frank. Not to mention that letter that Rachel supposedly sent to Jane, only a few months before the murder. What’s her story there? Did she find out that Jane was still alive and still married to Bob, which prompted Rachel to send the letter disclosing her relationship with Bob?

  17. It does look like Griem is not playing with a full deck – just like his client. For some reason Bashara reminds me of Drew Peterson – both are cocky S.O.B’s who liketo brag and throw their weight around.

Carla raises some good questions about Rachel. Note that both she and Jane’s mother have protection orders on Bashara. I get the feeling that there is a lot more that we don’t know about…YET!

  18. niecey456 says:

Carla, Apparently Bob did iniciate it, which is very telling. I do agree with you about confessions on this one. I think he will still deny any connection to Jane’s murder. I do agree they have him on this.

As far as Rachel, you do have very good questions about her. From all that I have read she claimed that he told her they were divorced. I have never read that she thought he was a widower. Do you have a link to a story where she states that? The following is a sample of some of what I have read on her relationship with Bob.
    http://www.freep.com/article/20120521/NEWS02/120521010/Bob-Bashara-Rachel-Gillett-Jane-Bashara-Grosse-Pointe
I have also not read of this alleged letter from Rachel to Jane. Could you share some links with me on these things?

I agree Jill first about Griem and then about the comparison between Drew and Bob. I also agree that Carla raises some good questions. I’m sure LE knows much more than we are privy to at this point.

  19. carla says:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2147813/Bob-Basharas-girlfriend-Rachel-Gillett-says-told-widower-wife-murdered.html

Ok, I found this which gives a succession of events ACCORDING TO GILLETT.

Assuming she is being truthful, when they met, Bashara tells her he’s a widower…then later fesses up to being married with an intention to divorce. Ok, stop right there, Ms. Gillett. Widowed to intention to divorce is a huge red flag. You’re not a 19 year-old in a first-time serious relationship without any worldly experience about how badly men behave. I don’t buy this. You’re a middle aged woman, so what told you it would be a good idea to continue to date a man who lied about his marital status, and possibly the ongoing status of his marriage?

Gillett may have been the victim of a lie by a player, but she was knowingly complicit in dating a married man for an additional TWO years until he lied AGAIN and told her he had divorced, but Rachel still couldn’t come to the house and visit! While I’m not willing to give Gillett a pass on her involvement with Bashara, I give her credit for what she’s done SINCE Jane’s murder, which is to distance herself from Bashara and cooperate with LE.

Niecey, the letter from Gillett to Jane was something the sleuths at THM had dug up, and it supposedly occurred before? Christmas, 2011. My guess is that Gillett was doubting that Bob was actually divorced and sent a letter to Jane explaining her relationship with Bashara. So Bob, who likely didn’t WANT to divorce because it would ruin him financially, felt the pressure from Gillett to move forward with their relationship which invited another female to be a 3rd from Oregon?, so he decided murder with a patsy would be the safest bet. And, it’s almost worked out that way.

  20. niecey456 says:

Thanks! I completely overlooked what Rachel had to say in this case. I know that you and all of the former Hinkies followed it much longer than I did, so these facts are greatly appreciated as I did have to research months of info in a short period of time to catch up.

I found this video where she explains, exactly what you were saying:
    http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/investigations/EXCLUSIVE-Bob-Bashara-s-former-girlfriend-speaks-out/-/1719314/13499820/-/x71ktlz/-/index.html

As far as the letter, this is all I could find and I found it over at websleuths. It is comment #987. No link was given to the “Exclusive” story that came from.
    http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7925501

  21. niecey456 says:

This story is on her order of protection and Griem’s rebuttal:
    http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120509/METRO/205090458

  22. carla says:

Griem suggested to “go visit someone at a furniture store on the border of Grosse Pointe and Detroit”? I realize this is a Defense tactic, but is he suggesting that there is a funiture store owner associated with Bashara who is the snitch?

Gentz’ attorney, Reid, says that he’s said all along he’s feared for his life, that Bashara would try to kill him, and now he has been vindicated. But she is cautioning, essentially, that just because Bashara is in jail doesn’t mean the threat against Gentz’ life is dismissed. Bashara has means, money and motive and CONTACTS who could potentially carry out a job against Gentz.

With a reasonable jury, Bashara should be locked up for a long time.

  23. carla says:

I’m having a “duh” moment. Bashara could also argue that he wanted Gentz killed as revenge for killing Jane, and continue to deny having any part in her murder.

  24. niecey456 says:

I’m not sure on Griem. I will have to read that again. Like his client, he’s not that smart.

Yes, ole Bob is quite the gangster, except he thinks (like Scott said) that he is the godfather or something. He doesn’t do his own dirty work. What a shame that dear old Bob couldn’t run across someone, down the road in the future, in prison that he’s wronged. Someone much bigger than he is that could teach him what a big man he’s not and what a little man he really is.

I truly hope that we will have a reasonable jury on this one. One like Sandusky’s would be nice.

  25. niecey456 says:

That is very true. I hope that won’t wash. I hope the girlfriend, his behavior/lifestyle, lying about talking to Jane on the phone that evening and all of the witnesses will paint the right picture.

Also the fact that Gentz told the truth that Jane was killed at that house, not where she was found. He did tell them that before they realized it themselves. They found it to be true.

  26. niecey456 says:

From that last link I gave on the arraignment, this is what Griem said about the furniture store.:

“After the arraignment, Griem said he believes the alleged hired hitman gave Bashara a written receipt.

He told the Free Press Tuesday that his client believes that this case is part of a set-up. He said Bashara believes the person is someone he knows, but not well. Griem said he thinks the man is someone who sold furniture and appliances to Bashara”

Griem is making excuses for Bob paying the person.

  27. niecey456 says:

To the person whose comment is in moderation for this post. I have not approved it because what you have presented as fact, you failed to give a legitimate source for those. If you can provide proof, I will be glad to allow that, though I would appreciate it if the name you called that person were not so vulgar. I try to keep this site in such a way as if a child were to stumble upon it, there would be nothing harmful presented to their eyes. I would prefer that word not be used here.

I like to present facts as facts, with source material and opinion to be presented as opinion or speculation.

    I hope you understand.

    Thank you.

    Niecey
