Monday, July 9, 2012 is the day that the FBI will be locking computers out of the internet, if they are infected with a form of malware, also known as a virus infection called the DNS Changer. This is your last chance to go and find out if your computer is infected and what to do about it.
You can go here to see if your computer is infected:
It will tell you if your computer is okay or is infected. The background for okay is green, while the background for infected is red, when you click on that link. I also found a link to the FBI’s site that will give you the latest in scams and viruses, with helpful information to keep you safe from these things.

What a shame the bad guys try so hard to be bad. Just think what they could do if they used their energies for something positive.
I will never understand evil.
Stay Safe!

Thankyou Niecey
I hope none of your readers are infected.
I checked 2 days ago and I am ok
I was worried at first that the whole thing was a scam and if I “checked” I would then be infected. It makes me feel better when someone I trust – like you – feels it is something I should do. I will NEVER understand the mentality of those who choose to “hurt” others in any way, even computer viruses. I am not sure what pleasure they get out of “attacking” people they will never see and have nothing against personally.
You’re welcome Jill! I hope that none of them are. I did hear on the news this morning that if anyone is they can contact their internet service providers for guidance in solving the problem, so if anyone knows anyone that was infected please share that with them.
Good to know Pam! I worried about that too, but it seemed that so many reputable sources were saying the same that I made sure to check. You cannot be too cautious these days.
Thank you, glad to know I have your trust.
I agree with you completely that is a mentality I cannot understand.
That those that have that mentality do not realize how much they miss by being bad and not experiencing the fruits of love and loyalty, hard work and all of the good things in life. They are terribly deceived by evil, until they become just that, evil.
Pam, This is O/T but someone wished you well here and I wanted you to see it.

My daughters computer was locked down by the FBI on 7/7/12. A memo is attached saying that the only way to unlock the computer is by paying $200 via Moneypack to the FBI. I am concerned that the request for money is a scam and I am not sure what to do to avoid the payment and rescue my daughters computer. Any advice??
Welcome Anita!!!
That is a scam. You can view more about it here:

I would have her report it, follow their instructions and take the computer to a computer tech to have it started over. Those would be my suggestions.
My sister also got the scam message about paying the FBI to unlock the computer. Luckily I had made a backup of her computer with Acronis True Image and was able to restore it.
Welcome Justice4all!!!
That is good to know. Thanks for sharing that!
You just cannot be too cautious. It pays to back things up as much as it pays to have the best security you can and of course we all should stay up on that learning curve.
It is also a very good idea to keep our computers updated, so that no programs are vulnerable and regularly clean the caches and cookies and history. Also regularly scan our computers.
